Welcome to our new monthly series, Under the Spotlight. Each month we will be showcasing a trending shade from our colour collection and providing you with inspiration on how to use this colour around your home.

With deep greens and inky blues becoming increasingly popular and stealing the spotlight in homes, it’s time to pay homage to a hardworking, versatile shade that will suit any space. Subtle is one of our staple greys, this ultra-versatile neutral toned grey is equally beautiful on its own or supporting brighter and bolder shades. This comforting neutral is perfect for bringing warmth to hallways and living rooms and can be used in an all-over colour drenched scheme for a cocooning feel. Continue reading to learn more about our favourite spaces to use Subtle around the home.

The Hallway

Subtle is the perfect warm shade to use for a hallway, whether it is north or south facing this soft and delicate, light grey will create a cosy and welcoming entryway for your home. A hallway is the perfect opportunity to make a statement, this is the first glimpse guests are given of your personal style. Crisp, white woodwork is a classic choice for hallways but why not try a statement trim. Pictured below is Subtle paired with Silver Birch. A grey green shade like Silver Birch paired with Subtle will help to create a relaxing feel and has the ability to shift in appearance as the natural light changes throughout the day, appearing greener in a well-lit hallway and greyer in darker spaces.

The Kitchen

Fresh whites and soft greys can create a beautiful and versatile backdrop for daily life, setting the scene for the first cup of coffee. Transform the look of your kitchen by simply painting your cabinetry and woodwork in a stunning hue such as Subtle. A pale grey like Subtle is a great alternative to crisp whites and will still create an understated, effortless look. Subtle has the ability to add warmth and character in any space, making it the perfect choice for your kitchen. Pair with a stronger contrasting colour on the kitchen island to create a focal point in your space, using Grafton Port or Pine Marten will create a similar look to the image below.

The Living Room

Our living room is the place we all look forward to retreating to after a long day or lounging about on a lazy weekend. Whether sociable open-plan or cosy standalone, living rooms come in all shapes and sizes – complete with a well-chosen colour and you’re assured of a space you can’t wait to come home to.

The simplicity of soft greys such as Subtle, work especially well with colourful furnishings, from brightly coloured throw pillows to a simple vase of flowers. Strong mustard yellows along with vibrant teals work perfectly with Subtle, adding in colour through furnishings is a great way to give your space personality and character.

It's not just the shade you choose, but the way you use it, that creates a versatile, welcoming, and visually stunning space. The breezy elegance of a neutral grey colour scheme can work wonders in spaces of all sizes.
