Topcoat Protect, formally known as Sustain WB50, is a durable finish ideal with many uses!
This high-performance water-based acrylic topcoat offers a durable, non-yellowing finish with excellent hand oil resistance. It dries quickly and provides early block resistance. Ideal for interior and exterior use on wood, primed metal, and walls. Perfect finish for furniture, kitchen cabinets, wardrobes and exterior wood projects. This finish will resemble an Eggshell finish of 30% ± 5% sheen.

1 Preparation
Ensure your surface is clean, dry and sound, and properly primed.
2 Prime
Confirm you are using the correct primer and consult the Technical Data Sheet.
3 Paint
This finish can be painted, rolled or sprayed onto the surface.

Storehouse and Thresher
Storehouse and Thresher exudes warmth and sophistication. Thresher, a deep, moody gray, provides a grounding backdrop, while Storehouse, a soft and inviting neutral, balances the space with a touch of warmth. Together, they create a refined yet welcoming atmosphere, perfect for both contemporary and classic kitchen designs. Whether paired with natural wood accents, sleek modern finishes, or vintage-inspired details, this colour combination enhances the kitchen’s character while maintaining a timeless elegance.
- Ensure the area to be painted is clean, dry, and sound. Use a strong degreaser cleaner to remove any dirt, grease, or grime. It is important to clean first especially for areas that are frequently touched, such as around door handles and railings Allow the surface to dry completely before moving onto the next step.
- Eliminate any loose or flaking paint by scraping or sanding the area until you reach a stable surface.
- Fill all gaps, cracks, or holes with a suitable filler. For areas subject to movement, such as where plaster meets doorframes or skirting, use an elastomeric acrylic caulk.
- After filling, sand the surface with fine sandpaper to create a key for the new paint to adhere to and to smooth out any imperfections. Wipe down the area with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust.
Apply an appropriate primer based on the substrate:
Hardwoods: Use Colourtrend PRME1 to prevent bleed and staining.
Pre-painted Surfaces: Use with Colourtrend PRIME2 for optimal adhesion.
Metal: For industrial applications, use a high-quality anticorrosive primer. For light DIY projects use Colourtrend PRIME2.
MDF: Use in combination with Colourtrend PRIME2

This finish can be applied using Brush, roller or spray.
- Stir thoroughly before and occasionally while using. If the job requires more than one batch, blend them together
- Use airless or air-assisted airless sprayers, gravity feed or suction feed systems with HVLP, pressure pots, roll or a brush for application. This is a fast-drying product, so when applying by brush or roller, it is important to work quickly to ensure an even finish.
To maintain the longevity and appearance of your Topcoat Protect, follow these aftercare guidelines:
- Regularly wipe down surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. For tougher stains, use a mild soap solution and avoid abrasive cleaners that may damage the finish.
- While the coating is designed to resist water, prolonged exposure to standing water should be avoided to maintain durability.
- If minor scratches or marks appear, lightly sand the affected area and reapply the topcoat as per the original application method.
- Allow the coating to fully cure (up to 7 days) before exposing it to heavy use. Avoid extreme temperatures and humidity during this period for optimal durability.
- Keep leftover paint in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly sealed to prevent drying out.
