How To Reuse Your Paint Sample Pots: Flowerpots - Colourtrend Paints

June 02, 2023 2 min read

Have you ever found yourself staring at an array of leftover paint sample pots, remnants of previous projects, cluttering your storage space? Instead of letting those paint samples go to waste, why not get creative and give them new life? In this blog post, we'll explore a fantastic way to repurpose the remains of your paint sample pots by using them to add vibrant colours and patterns to your flowerpots. Get you and your family together and prepare to unleash your inner artist and bring a burst of colour to your garden or indoor plants!

Gather Your Materials:

To get started, you'll need a few basic materials:

  • Leftover paint sample pots: Dig out those forgotten pots hiding in your storage.
  • Flowerpots: Choose flowerpots of any shape and size.
  • Paintbrushes: Pick a range of brush sizes to accommodate various patterns and techniques.
  • Space: Designate an area where you will paint mess and stress-free.
  • Plants and compost: Either re-pot your current plants or head to your local garden centre.

STEP 1: Prime (optional)

Before you begin painting, make sure your flowerpots are clean and dry. We coated our flowerpots with a layer of Prime 2, this will ensure better adhesion of the paint and longevity of the design.

Step 2: Paint

Create your design and experiment with different colours and patterns. Consider techniques like freehand designs, patterns, or even solid colours when choosing your designs. Here are the patterns we picked for our flowerpots:

Solid colours: Paint the entire flowerpot with a single bold colour to create a vibrant focal point. We used the earthy brown of Pine Marten and the light blue shade of Connecticut.

Patterns: The two patterns we decided upon were multicolouredstripes and a half-and-half pot. The striped pot is painted with Chestnut Pink and Nettle Soup while the half-and-half pot features the bold shade of Profound and the soft lilac hue of Anu.

Freehand: Get creative with your designs, they don’t need to be perfect, ours most definitely aren't. Our grass pot features Mucky Swan, Goya, Sweet Caper, and Nettle Soup. We painted our final flowerpot with freehandflowers using Petrol, Cherished White, Nettle Soup, and Goose Down.

Step 3: Pot

Once you've finished painting, allow the pots to dry. When dry, you can begin to pot your chosen plants. Make sure to fill around your plant with compost to help the plant flourish.

Step 4: Position

Now that you have beautifully painted flowerpots, it's time to display them proudly. Arrange them in your garden, on your patio, or even indoors, breathing new life into your living space. These vibrant and personalised pots will undoubtedly add a touch of charm and character to any environment.
